LED Strips are emerging as an extremely versatile way for people to add professional quality effects to nearly anything. These thin strips of LED lighting deliver vivid colors which can be easily controlled, generate low heat, and are energy efficient. With their many advantages, LED Strips are suited for a range of applications, including accenting furniture, customizing electronics, or creating ambiance in a dull room. With so many LED Strip options available, has developed a guide to help you select right product for your uses.
To select the right strip for your project, we will help you determine:
Which level of waterproofing will my LED Strips require?
What color LED Strip do you need?
What size and density LED Strip do you need?
Which accessories will help your LED Strip project?
LED Strip Light Info at a Glance:
LED strips come in spools of 16.4 ft. (5 m).
offers 3 different levels of Waterproofing: IP30, IP65, and IP68.
LED Strips can be Single or Multi Colored.
LED Strips have 2 different LED sizes:
3528 and 50503528 LED’s measure 35x28 mm and only display one color.
5050 LED’s measure 50x50 mm, are brighter than 3528’s, and can be single or multi colored.
LED Strips come in Regular and High Density.
High Density LED Strips include twice as many LED’s as Regular LED Strips. This makes for a brighter and smoother lighting effect.
1. Determining the Waterproofing your LED Strips require
offers 3 different levels of waterproofing for our LED Strip lights. The ideal waterproof level depends on where the strip will be used.
IP30: Dry, Indoor
For dry, indoor environments, recommends our IP30 Bare LED Strips.
IP30 LED Strips are not protected against water, and are typically used for lighting under stairs, cupboards, etc.
IP65: Humid, Indoor/Outdoor
2. What Color LED Strip do you need?
White LED Strips
Cool White:A crisper white, closer to what you would expect from a fluorescent bulb.
Multicolored LED Strips:
offers 3 different RGB Color Changing Strips in plug-and-play kits because they require a remote and a transformer, as opposed to single-colored LED strips.Three Color (Chasing Style)
Alternating Red, Green, and Blue LED’s with a chasing effect. (Do not change color)
LED Density
While our Regular Density Strips typically meet most lighting demands, some projects demand brighter and more even lighting effects. For these more demanding projects, offers a High Density option for both LED sizes (Available in Cool and Warm White, both IP30 and IP65 Waterproofing). High Density spools include 2x the LED’s per 5m spool, but can be slightly more difficult to connect to power supplies.
3528 | 5050 | |
Regular Density | 300 LED’s per spool | 150 LED’s per spool |
High Density | 600 LED’s per spool | 300 LED’s per spool |
4. Determine the length and how to cut the strip light
Standard LED strips have a length of 16.4 ft and contain a number of series and parallel connected LEDs. This design enables you to cut the strip every fixed number of LEDs; the places where the strip can be cut are clearly marked on the strip. Cut‐off parts of the strips are not wasted as it is possible to solder new power supply wires to these cut‐off parts, or we also sell connectors that will connect cut strips together.
5. Which accessories will help your LED Strip project?
Power Adapters
Power Adapters are required to use any LED Strip. Depending on the amount of Wattage your Strip lights require, offers Power Adapters which produce 24, 30, 60, and 150 watts. The power adapter you need will also depend on the LED size in your strip.
Extensions/Connecters/Amplifiers
LED Strip Extension Wires and Connecters are used to connect separate LED Strips for use with the same controller and/or power supply.
It is important when connecting LED strips to add up the required power, and make sure your power adapter has a high enough output. If you need more power for your additional LED strips, offers an Easy-Plug Amplifier. This special connector includes a power receiver so the additional strip can have its own power adapter.
Dimmers
LED Strip Dimmers add an extra, controllable dimming effect to your LED lighting project!
On/Off Switches
On/Off Switches give you the ability to turn your LED Strips on or off without having to plug or unplug the power adapter.
Controllers
sells many LED Strip Light controllers to animate LED Strips. Controllers are usually bundled with wireless Remote Controls.
also offers a sound-activated Music Controller, which can automatically animate an LED Strip if music plays near where the Strip is installed.
